Happy Halloween!

I made this Yoda hat for a friends baby.



His daddy is going to be Luke Skywalker for Halloween, and the baby is obv. going to be Yoda...daddy will be carrying baby on his back, a la  The Empire Strikes Back.

 

SO CUTE.

 

B and I aren't doing anything special for Halloween since he's on call this weekend, but we will be passing out candy to any kids that happen to come by...our house is somewhat difficult to access from the main road in the neighborhood. We have candy though! Um, we've been eating it already....but still, there is candy! For kids! On Halloween! Wheeeee!

Fetch and scary pants

We're headed to West Virginia next month to visit B's dad. We're planning our super fantastic road trip route, and while our drive up to the middle of nowhere should be over in 13-14 hours of straight driving, we're going to meander a bit on the way back. Anyone have any suggestions on places in WV, NC, SC or N. GA that are must do/see's? Um, anything yarn/fiber related is obviously much appreciated, but we're both big history buffs, and love art & music, so anything relating to that type of stuff would be welcomed as well.

Nina's been working some crazy hours leading up to the election, so we've had Cricket for the past week. B and I spent hours playing fetch with both dogs this week to try and wear them out so we could get some sleep.

I've got knitting pictures on the way, but let me leave you with this story: Today we went to Target to buy some household items. On the way out, B saw the skintight metallic leggings in the juniors department. He picked up a pair and said "Can you imagine if I wore these to work as part of a costume on Halloween? I could totally go as a 70's glam rocker, like David Bowie in the Ziggy Stardust days."

Now, the fatal mistake I made was saying, "You would NOT. You are kidding, you'd never fit into/wear those."

Less than a minute later, he was paying for them.

Of course, he had to try them on.

I hope I haven't scarred anyone for life.

October

 I've spent most of my life living in places where there isn't a pronounced change of seasons. In Southern California and Florida, we usually mark the change from Summer to Fall with a forecast that goes from "Really Hot" to "Still Really Hot, With The Occasional Breeze." Our shift into what we call Winter is marked by the shock of awaking one morning to frost on the windows and a few daytime lows in the 50's.  Without having spent several years in Washington State, I'm not sure I'd even know when seasons are supposed to change.

It's October now, and, to me, Autumn has officially arrived. It seems as though my dreams of a real Fall experience may be closer than ever, as  I've noticed cooler mornings, crisper air, and the return of adult red foxes to my neighborhood over the last week. An insistent owl has been hooting at the moon outside my bedroom the past few nights, and the trees are shedding their leaves. Compared to other places, my Autumn is very subtle, but it is still my favorite season.
