I've seen this interview on a few blogs, and decided to shamelessly copy it when I saw Alyson's. You know, because I stalk her. (HI ALYSON! I DON'T REALLY STALK YOU AT LEAST NOT IN A "CALL THE POLICE IMMEDIATELY" KIND OF WAY, JUST IN A "WOW, SHE'S SO TALENTED AND FUNNY" KIND OF WAY. NO RESTRAINING ORDER NECESSARY, I PROMISE.)
Ahem.
Annnnnyway, I interviewed MR. BRIAR HEEF, as I like to call him. Here you go. Please, try not to keel over from the excitement.
Me: What is your favorite thing about my knitting?
Brian: It's more than just a hobby, it's fully functional, you're making something you can use out of some string. It's really cool to see something useful come from nothing.
Me: What is your least favorite thing about my knitting?
Brian: I worry about your carpal tunnel since you're on a computer all day and then you come home and knit.
Me: What is something I have knitted that you recall as being good?
Brian: Everything has been really good.
Me: Anything specific?
Brian: I think you knitting all the hats for the kids in Afghanistan was really good, not enough people do things that benefit other people, and the fact that they look good and will serve a purpose is pretty cool.
Me: Do you think knitters have an expensive hobby?
Brian: Not compared to musicians.
Me: Do you have any hobbies?
Brian: Uh, yeah. I play guitar, drums and bass, and have all the equipment for each one of those, so I'm pretty well invested in my hobbies.
Me: And the video games.
Brian: Oh yeah. Those too.
Me: What are your hobbies?
Brian: Already answered that. Oh, and I made money with my hobby last week, so that was good.
(Yeah, they actually got paid for doing a show. WOO HOO!)
Me: If we compared money spent on hobbies, who would win?
Brian: My hobby is way more expensive, but all my stuff is paid for. I already have it, you always buy yarn. Then again, you can buy some Noro and it's not that much compared to a $320 ride cymbal which is just one part of a drum kit.
(HELLO, please note he referred to NORO without any prompting. Way to go, B! Probably because Noro is his favorite kind of yarn, he loves the colors.)
Me: Has my knitting in public ever embarrassed you?
Brian: No, I think it's badass.
Me: Do you know my favorite kind of yarn?
Brian: I've heard you mention Malabrigo. Oh, and I know how much you love that yarn that you got dyed to look like the dogs.
Me: The stuff I had Scout dye for me, yeah. And way to go on the Malabrigo!
Brian: Yeah, thats the stuff you say feels like baby skin, right?
Me: Awkward. Yes, I have said that. Now I'm going to sound like a psycho who wants to knit things with baby skin.
Brian: Quit while you're ahead.
Me: Can you name another blog?
Brian: Ummm....no, not a knitting blog. Wait, Carrie's blog. DragonCon Carrie, right? I don't know her blog name though. (ETA: OH HAI CARRIE! I'M STALKING YOU NOW!)
Me: Do you mind that I want to check out yarn stores everywhere we go?
Brian: No, because I do the same thing with music stores. I like going different yarn stores too, I mean, I sew, so I kind of get it.
(here he tells me to please note that by sewing, he means upholstery type work and manufacturing. MANLY SEWING, you see.)
Me: Do you understand the importance of a swatch?
Brian: Like a fabric swatch?
Me: No, when I knit one.
Brian: Oh, you have to test the yarn out to make sure it will work for the project. It's like a test drive.
Me: Good enough.
Me: Do you read my blog?
Brian: Every now and then. That's your stuff and I don't wanna be all up in your business.
Me: It's not like it's a secret though. Come on, it's on the INTERNET.
Brian: Still though, I don't want you to feel like I'm intruding or something.
Me: Good. My blog is super sekrit and very important. I'd hate to have you intrude. Weirdo.
Brian: Yeah, sure. Call ME a weirdo. Why don't you go knit with some baby skin?
Me: I'm asking the questions here, buddy. Have you ever left a comment on my blog? Well, this one is kind of a moot point since you don't read it.
Brian: Yeah, your blog is your thing. You tell me all the stuff on there anyway.
Me: Do you think the house would be cleaner if I didn't knit?
Brian: No. You keep all your stuff organized, and you keep your knitting stuff confined to certain places, so it isn't a big deal. Plus, housework WILL get done since your pretty OCD about it. Knitting sounds like it would be more fun than housework, but apparently you feel differently.
Me: No, I just prioritize.
Brian: And you're obsessive compulsive about cleaning.
Me: So?
Me: Is there anything you would like to add in closing?
Brian: I think the knitting community is so awesome because you guys have taken something that people think is just a hobby and turned it into so much more. The fact that you can make something functional and enjoy doing it is amazing. And when Cricket got hurt, that was the most unbelievable outpouring of support...I've never seen anything like it. Thanks to your massive yarn stash, we paid her vet bills, and I think it's so great that people were willing to help out.
Me: Thanks, honey. You can go back to shooting things in that game now.
Brian: Okay.
In other news:
I finally stopped knitting hats
All those hats and other items for a4A allowed me to be entered into a drawing at my LYS...and I won. An entire bag of Elsebeth Lavold Silky Cashmere. DROOOOOOOOOL. What should I make? Help me think of something goooood, y'all.
I'm knitting socks now, and want to marry the yarn.
I gave my former employer who is currently my contract employer that I will be terminating my contract with them effective 9/1. There are many reasons for this, the main one being I hate the constant stress/drama of dealing with them. Another really good reason is that REALLY GOOD THINGS are happening for me at my primary employer and I just do not have the time to work 2 jobs anymore.
Sampson is cute.
That is all.
