    Day 4-Take me to Staceyville!

Warning: This may get a bit lengthy.

After ingesting a copious amount of caffeine, I got the call I had been waiting for. Stacey! She was having breakfast with her family, and wouldn't be done til noon or so. I headed out to Anaheim Hills a bit early to do some shopping while I waited for her. On the way, I stopped at Miguel's Jr. in Corona for a bean, rice and cheese burrito. Heaven, people. It was heaven.

After stuffing my face, I continued on to the O.C. I drove around a bit, popped into a few shops, and got really sappy and weepy. This was my old stomping ground. It was weird...just...emotional. Hard to describe. Suddenly, I knew what would cheer me up. YARN!

I sent Stacey a text message to ask her if she minded if I did a bit of yarn shopping while I waited. She didn't, and so I headed over to Velona.

Going to Velona is pure sensory overload. There is  yarn crammed into each nook and cranny, stacked floor to ceiling, shoved here and there.  It's a bit overwhelming. Anyway, I browsed to my hearts content, grabbing a lovely skein of Jitterbug as a souvenir.

I turned a corner near the Silver Thaw and Baby Ull. That's when I saw her. There she was, like a glorious princess of all things fiberly. Stacey. I swear I heard angels sing.

We hugged, and immediately continued the yarn scavenging. It was as though no time had passed at all, like we see each other every day. This is how it is with my friends. They are amazing.

We finished up at Velona and headed over to, where else, Starbucks. Stacey and I met nine years ago when we worked together at the Stadium Crossings store in Anaheim. We actually opened that store. Awwww. Memories.  It was fitting we'd hang out at a Starbucks. (Plus, Stacey bought me coffee with her employee discount before we sat down to knit. I LOVE YOU, STACEY.)

We sat. We knit. I worked on Katie's Hederas. Stacey busted out her Central Park Hoodie, which, in some unplanned, bizarre coincidence, is the exact same color as my CPH. We are SO soulmates.

Can I just pause for a moment to say how cool it was to sit and knit with Stacey? I don't think we've ever done that before. She's the whole reason I knit. She's my constant crafty inspiration. I don't know if I would have picked the needles up in the first place if it hadn't been for her. When I got sick, I was determined to teach myself. I learned the basics, but kinda lost interest in the midst of constant hospital visits and tests. Several months later, I went to Mammoth with Stacey, Randy, Tracey and Phil (YAY PHIL!)  and Stacey was knitting in the car. She was making a scarf for someone, in some pale yellow yarn. I was so jealous, it looked so cool. I vowed to master knitting. When I got home, I dabbled some more, but life interfered, and once again, I lost interest.  After moving to Florida and being bored and miserable for several months, I got a book in the mail from Stacey. Stitch 'n Bitch. It changed my life. Seriously. I owe it all to her. Knitting is a huge part of who I am, and I can honestly tell y'all it DID change my life. So. Thank you, Stacey.

Anyway. After about, what, 3? Hours of knitting and talking, I sweet talked Stacey into driving out to the I.E. to meet B. She's such a trooper. Not only did she meet B, she got to experience my parents. She even stayed and ate dinner with us. Annnnd....we knitted and knitted and knitted. It was a fabulous day, and I am so happy I got to spend some time with her. Thank you for flying down to see lil' ol' me, my dear. Also? You're a stone fox.

Don't you wish your girlfriend was hot like mine?

After a day like that, what else could I do but go to bed? I was happy and exhausted. I had knitted my heart out. Most importantly, I got to spend a good chuck of time with one of my favorite people on Earth. Bliss.

Randomly ETA: Oh holy shit. I think I love you.

    Day 3/early day 4

This time difference is kicking my ass. I'm getting up at 5 here because to me, it's 8. Starting off every day with a wonderful treat of a Cinnamon Dolce Latte from the local Starbucks. Went out with my mom and B to downtown Riverside and did some shopping. B and I got this awesome calavera...I'll have to post a pic. Went to lunch at P.F. Changs and then did some shoe shopping. Spent the rest of the afternoon just hanging out...I finished Stephanie's sock and had to frog Katie's Hedera's because I cannot count. Had a nice dinner with the family, grilled Ahi and veggies. I miss my mom's cooking. We've been bonding with my parents many cats. They have a young kitten who is so much fun, I've forgotten how adorable baby cats can be.

Today I got up even earlier due to the time change. Got dressed, read the paper, cruised down to Starbucks. The cool, crisp air is amazing. Stacey and I have plans later today, I'm hoping to do some yarn shopping and knitting. B is going to stay here with mom and pops for some bonding time, and we're trying to work out the logistics of him and Stacey meeting. We're heading to the Getty on Tuesday, not sure what the plan is for tomorrow. The time is flying by, but we are enjoying our trip immensely.

ETA: Some pics our the trip do far are posted on my Flickr stream!

    Day 1 and 2

    DAY ONE

We were at the airport by 430am yesterday. The fact I did not sleep the night before, not even a little bit, made me a bit cranky. Flew from Jax to ATL, and were thrust into the busy business traveler world since it was about 7am. Grabbed some quick breakfast and waited in the LONGEST LINE EVER for some Starbucks. Sat around and people watched. Finally boarded, only to be told there was a mechanical issue that had to be fixed. It was a warning horn on the front landing gear, I have no clue what that means, but about 30 minutes later, we were on our way. I knit, read, moisturized, meditated, knit some more, looked out the window for a while, tried to sleep and was unsuccessful, listened to the last 3 eps of Stash & Burn, knit even more, tried to sleep again, etc. Finally arrived at ONT and mom was there to pick us up. After waiting a looooong time for luggage, made the 20 minute trek to the house. SO GOOD to be home! So exciting for B to meet my parents after all this time. Mom served up an awesome late breakfast meal for us, and we tried to nap. I still didn't sleep. We went out and cruised around, I got to check out the massive expansion of concrete and chain stores in the area, and we grabbed a great dinner at Carino's. Headed home, watched The Office, and I finally crashed.

    DAY TWO

Got up early, since our bodies are 3 hours ahead of the time here. Decided to go out to the Aquarium of the Pacific. Introduced B to the wonderful world of driving in So. Cal. I drove, which I usually never do when we are in the car together, and gleefully jumped right back in to the world of freeway driving. Got to Long Beach, checked out the aquarium. Paid lots of attention to the otter exhibit...I love otters. Got some really cool pictures of some of the jellyfish. Headed over to the Queen Mary to be total tourists. It was cool for the historical stuff, but I don't think we'd have gone if we hadn't gotten a discount for it when we bought our aquarium tickets...it was pretty trashed from all the Halloween stuff they do each year. Headed home, continuing to point out "I worked off this exit, for a while I lived off that exit, over there is the Starbucks Stacey and I used to work at, etc.," to B, who patiently nodded and smiled. Home now, getting ready to nap. The time difference is no fun for me right now. We miss the dog so damn much. It's pathetic. We're so happy to be here though! I think B is going to get his first taste of In 'n Out burger for dinner this evening. I have a hot date with Stacey on Sunday which features much knitting and yarn fondling. I cannot wait to see her, and am hoping to see Stephanie soon.

    Yay for vacation!

    Bon Voyage

Right now, as you read this, I'm on my way home! Hooray!

B has probably had to drag me through at least one airport and possibly another, since I'm not exactly a morning person and the first leg of our trip involves an EAAAAAARRRRRRLLLLLY flight. Hopefully he was able to find coffee to soothe the savage Sarah, and we're all good now.

Anyway. I'll be flying across the continent this morning, knitting away on a luscious Malabrigo scarf for a friend, doing a bit of reading, and hopefully napping. I'm so excited to see my mom, my friends, smog, and freeways. I cannot wait to share this trip with B.

Let's be honest though. We all know what I am REALLY excited about.

    YUM

More to come over the next week or so!
