    By the power of Greyskull....

    Dscn1438

    It is finished.

    THANK GOD IT IS DONE.

This pattern is SO great. Simple with gorgeous results. Also? It has been TEDIOUS for me because of my short attention span, and my perfectionism. You don't even wanna know how many times I ripped this thing out. All in all, I am pretty pleased with the final results. I used much less yarn, and spent fewer hours working on this once I made some minor adjustments to the overall width. I think my cousin is going to love it. The DB Alpaca Silk held up extremely well considering all the frogging I did on this project (remember when it looked like this? That was the first of it's, oh, 5 incarnations.) I was worried the yarn was cursed, but no....finally, FINALLY I HAVE TRIUMPHED.

Look at it again....because I said so....and because this pic is more true to color/doesn't make my carpet look like it has some jacked up green tint.

    Dscn1439

Next up? Finishing the multi-directional scarf while watching Lost this evening. From there? All Jaywalkers, all the time. I am thinking joining the KAL was a wise move for me, as Cara is really, really inspiring and so damn passionate about these socks. She makes me feel like I CAN make socks. And the pattern? AWESOME. You should go cast on for some right now. It's really simple, and they knit up super fast, and you see results right away. Now, if only I could get my hands on some Socks That Rock....shit. I think this may be a problem...sock yarn may become my new addiction.

It's 38 degrees here and forecasted to be colder tonight. Everyone at work is bundled up like they are living on the frozen tundra. Me? I've got a fan blowing on me, am wearing jeans and a lightweight cardigan, and these:

    Dscn1470

Bring on the cold. I love it.

Miss Skylar tagged me, so I must obey.

TEN random things you might not know about me.
1: I have a younger brother who is 18. He lives in Bellingham, WA with my dad.

2: I helped my aunt raise her three kids from the time I was in 6th grade until I was a junior in high school.

3: I'm a really good cook, but I HATE to bake.

4: I've been engaged three times...none of them even panned out, thank the Lord.

5: I'd be perfectly happy not getting married, ever.

6: I was terrified of dogs and wouldn't go near one from the age of 7 until last year.

7: My sister is a Republican, but I love her anyway.

8: At one point in my life I was big into dirtbike riding.

9: My friend Stephanie had to teach me how to be more "girly" when I was about 19-20; she took me to get my eyebrows waxed for the first time and showed me how to buy makeup at the MAC counter.

    10: Once upon a time, I was a quasi-professionally trained singer. Now I can't carry a tune in a bucket.

    NINE places I’ve visited
    1: The Bahamas

2: Vancouver Island, Canada...yes, Butchart Gardens, Crystal Gardens, the Empress, the whole deal. Took a ferry from Anacortes, WA all the way there, through the San Juans. Beautiful. Wish I could do it again as an adult.

    3: Monterey, CA

    4: Vegas (many, many times)

    5: Seaside, OR

6: Seattle, WA (not sure if that counts since I was born there and lived there for many years)

    3: Pork.

    4: Randy Newman.

5: The way movies filmed in the late 60's-all through the 70's look...I can't watch them, something about the film grain and colors make me batty.

FOUR ways to turn me off
1: Be arrogant/your own biggest fan/constantly talk about how great you are....and be dead serious about it.

2: Be cruel to an animal.

1: Tell Sampson how much I adore him.

2: Take a ridiculous dose of heartburn medication.

    3: Pray.

TWO things that make me happy
    1: Knitting
2: Being loved by my family, friends, and animals

ONE thing on my mind right now
1: I need to stop freaking out about going to court Tuesday.

Who am I tagging? Ehhh, anyone else who wants to play.

I am going to go home for lunch and eat leftover turkey now....we cooked a 13 pounder last night. Deep. Fried. Goodness. Seriously, if you ever get the chance to try deep fried turkey, you should take it. I know it sounds weird, I was scared at first....I thought it was going to be greasy and oily and nasty. I was so wrong. That was about 6 years ago, and my mother has never made a baked/roasted turkey since. Deep fried is the way to go; you'll never taste a juicier turkey.

    Dscn1436

For those of you counting, this is dog-picture-free post numero dos. Even though I have some REALLY cute pics of Sampson I took yesterday that I am DYING to share. I am not giving in.

    Gluttony and Glue

Ugh. I am so full. Must. Stop. Eating. Leftovers. Thanksgiving was lovely, with waaaaaay too much food for five people, and frantic decorating of my house before everyone showed up. I stayed up until 4am Thursday morning cooking and cleaning, yet still managed to enjoy myself. Brian deep fried a PERFECT turkey. It was soooo good. How good you ask? Well, it's gone. I think we were too generous with giving away turkey to our guests to take home with them on Thanksgiving, and we have eaten all our leftovers, so guess what we are doing tonight? That's right. Making another turkey. Mmmmmm. Turkey.

I haven't done much knitting. I planned to, really, I did. I mean, I worked on my Jaywalkers, and the cabled scarf, and am THIS CLOSE to finishing the multi-directional scarf, and I started a pair of Fuzzy Feet....

However....sometimes I get these, ahem "brilliant" ideas and they take over my life for a few days at a time. The current genius move is painting one of my bathrooms. It had HIDEOUS wallpaper that I have always hated, and I decided it was long past time for it to go. So, down came the wallpaper. Easy enough, since it has been there forever, and was already peeling up from the wall in many places. I THOUGHT there was an under layer of wallpaper adhesive on the sheetrock, but SOMEONE told me, "Nope, that's drywall paper, don't take it off."

    So, I started painting.

The same person who told me not to take off the "drywall paper" came home later and said, "Hey, that's wallpaper adhesive, you should probably take that off."

    Hmmmmppppphhhh.

Do you have any idea how hard it is to remove wallpaper adhesive that is coated in wet paint?

So, after working with an industrial steam cleaning machine (not a wimpy wallpaper steamer, mind you) for 6 + hours, in a pretty tiny bathroom, only half the adhesive is gone, and I am ready to kill people, SOMEONE walks in and says, "You know, you didn't have to take the paper off, you could have done a textured paint effect."

    DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE.

Fortunately, SOMEONE redeemed themselves by taking me to see Walk the Line, starring my future husband. If you have not seen this movie, go see it NOW.

I also finally saw the new Harry Potter movie, which was also very good. I won't elaborate because I'm sure you have already read alllll about it on other blogs, or have seen it yourself.

I would like to point out to Stacey that this blog entry contains NO pictures of my dogs. In dog-related news though, go here to see the picture that has had me and Brian laughing for four days and inspired Sampson's new nickname.

Hope everyone had a relaxing and pleasant weekend!

Reunited and it feels so gooo-oooo-ood

    Who was reunited?

    These two, of course.

    Dscn1424

Cricket, aka MASTER SPLINTER came over last night for some play time with her brother. Look, she's blowing you kisses. Right before she destroys you with her laser eyes.

    Dscn1425

    Know what this is?

    Dscn1429

Frost on the roof. (Please excuse the poor photo....this was taken this morning while I was wearing a towel and holding the camera out my door trying to capture the frosty goodness on the roof across the street without exposing my naked bosoms to my neighbors leaving for work.)

That's right folks, it's chilly here, and I love it. My Irish Hiking Wristwarmers are keeping me toasty. No, really. I put them on this morning, and am wearing a light sweater and jeans, and while everyone else is bundled up like an Eskimo, I am nice and cozy with just the addition of the wristwarmers. Then again, I am notoriously hot-blooded (check it and see....) This means if you come to my house and expect the heater to be on, EVER, you are in for a huge disappointment. Maybe I just don't feel the cold the same way others do. To me, 34 degrees means open all the windows and finally turn off the AC. Brian is adjusting by wearing his awesome hat all the time and using extra blankets at night. Me? I say, who needs a blanket? BRING THE COLD.

I am making a sock because I am a sucker and in a fit of deranged enthusiasm joined another KAL. This is um, my first ever sock, since I am not counting the one I ripped out and cried over on Saturday. So far, so good. Magic loop kicks ass, and these socks are soooooooooooo easy and FAST.

    Dscn1430

My sugar daddy Brian is bringing me some of his hard earned money in a bit so I can go finish up the Thanksgiving shopping. Please pray for me, as I have been known to FLIP OUT in crowded stores and there is a 99.9% chance of that happening this afternoon. My first stop is Starbucks for some fuel to prepare me for my ordeal. I get off work early today, so I am HOPING I can beat the bulk of the after-work last minute shoppers by being an afternoon last-minute shopper. I'm so not counting on that being the case though.

The panic attack and claustrophobia will all be forgotten tomorrow as I bite into a succulent piece of deep fried turkey breast. Mmmmmm. Have a happy and safe Thanksgiving, everyone!

Guess what I bought this weekend? (WARNING: all my vegan buddies close your eyes)

    MY FIRST TURKEY!

    Dscn1423

That's right folks....I have never cooked a turkey. A turkey breast? Sure! A turkey sandwich? Absolutely! An entire turkey? NOPE!

    Guess what else?

I"M NOT COOKING IT THIS YEAR EITHER!

That noble distinction will be left up to my beloved. We will be deep frying our bird, so I figure thats more his speed, him being the bonafide Southerner and all. I will be injecting the bird and rubbing it down, which I do have experience with. I used to marinate and rub my mom's turkeys every year prior to the deep frying. I find talking on the phone while preparing a turkey for deep frying  is always a treat....when people ask you what you are doing, you can say "I'm rubbing down a turkey" which is always funny. (At least, if you have the sense of humor of a 12 year old like me, it's funny.)

I'm gearing up for the big day...you see, despite my hard outer shell, I am a holiday freak at heart. I confessed my love of all things Christmas to Brian the other night. How I LOVE to decorate, and want to put garland down out banister and would he please hang Christmas lights for me and on and on and on....after turning green and adjusting his collar, he, being the good man that he is, responded with, "Sure, babe, whatever you want." I think he secretly wants to run far, far away from me, but who cares! CHRISTMAS IS COMING!

But wait....Ahem. Sooo....yeah....Christmas? We aren't really having it this year...I mean, I have had to scale WAY back on the decorating plans, and we aren't buying gifts unless those gifts are a sofa and a loveseat and a new bed and maybe a dresser...but other than that? No gifts. We are poor, and we have decided that with the way everything has happened, this year is not so good for the Christmas thing. I am SO SAD. Not because I won't be getting gifts, but because I LOVE shopping for and giving gifts. Oh well, there is always next year, right? And I mean, we ARE doing Thanksgiving, and I am really excited about cooking. It's going to be a small affair, just me and B and his mom, and the recent additions of Nina and Josh, and of course, Sampson and the Cricket Monster. Still though....I get to cook, and this makes me happy.

Knitting-wise, I am on a scarf bender. Seriously, maybe I should change my name. ;)

A scarf is nice and easy and mindless, just the kind of knitting I need right now. I tried to work on my sock over the weekend. It was frogged and restarted about 4 times. (I totally need to get over that in a hurry though.) I also started a cardigan for myself, which was frogged and put away. I started a present for my Secret Pal, which was a design of my very own and involved my first intarsia and was going swimmingly until I set it down halfway through the intarsia section and came back to it ten minutes later and totally forgot what to do next. Frogged it. So, I worked on scarves. Lots of scarves.

Here's the finished and blocked mini-Clapotis. I knit this with some really unusual yarn my LYS had on sale DIRT CHEAP. It's a mix of cotton, linen, and wool, thick and thin, in a slightly variegated combo of purples and dark reds. The yarn has a rather paper-y texture, but turned out so soft and lovely after blocking.

    Dscn1412 Dscn1413

Here's the in-progress Multi-Directional Scarf in some ultra soft Arucania Atacama alpaca. (Say that 10 times fast!)

    Dscn1416

Here's the revamped never ending cabled scarf for my cousin that I SWEAR I am going to finish this week.

    Dscn1418

Oh yeah, and somewhere along the way I started a Cozy to replace the nappy-ass throw in my office.

    Dscn1417

(It's a stash busting project that will most likely last FOREVER, and hopefully use up several skeins of acrylic yarn that MUST GO.)

There is some purple Cascade 220 in my stash calling out to me, asking me to please, please make it into a Wavy. I have some Noro Lily, color 118,  just BEGGING to be turned into a mini-clappy. I also may have slipped, fell, and accidentally slid into my LYS last week and purchased some yarn to make myself a buttonhole bag, and a full-size Clapotis. It's scarf mania at Casa de NotScarlett.

Oh, also? I am insane. I totally signed up to be a hostess for SP7. That's right. Color me crazy.

I have to get my fat ass back to the gym this week....in addition to my little Thanksgiving on Thursday, work is putting on a Thanksgiving feast tomorrow, complete with deep fried turkeys, some ham (I'll pass on the ham, thanks), venison, and all kinds of Southern-style sides. I think I just felt my arteries harden. Yes, I said work. Unlike some lucky people out there, I have to work this week....only the first three days though. Friday B has to work, which will leave me at home alone and to my own devices....I am already planning a day of knitting, knitting, knitting, drinking tea, eating leftovers, and watching movies with my dog. I am SO looking forward to Friday!

One more thing before I go....check out the GIGANTIC spider outside my house....I don't wanna know what he's chowing down on...since it resembles a roach to a certain degree, I let the mutant spider live and left him right where he was. Any kind of roach killer is a friend of mine.

    Dscn1414

Thank y'all for the encouraging words about the legal issues....I will have more details soon, but for right now, cross your fingers for me.

    Fun with Cables, Part II

I have been lax in posting, commenting, and responding to comments. I have been remiss in my new duties as a ring mistress. Please forgive me. I am in the midst of having a major freak out about some legal issues and have been a little too worked up to post anything fun/happy.

To placate you, I made a hat. I offer you this humble FO, modeled by it's recipient, the marvellous Brian, who loves me so much he makes me dinner and talks me down from my panic attack when I am served a summons at my house.

    Dscn1397 Dscn1398 Dscn1399_1

It is the Basic Cable hat from SnB nation, made with some lovely Jo Sharp Silkroad Aran. The middle pic above shows the "true" color of the yarn the best. Brian likes it. You can't really see his enthusiasm here, as he is playing video games and all you see is the typical male tv watching/video game playing combo of glassy eyes and open mouth, but he DOES like it.

I gave Sampson a bath last night, and he is now very soft, which led to this exchange before work today.

B: (petting Sampson) Wow, he's soooo soft. I think I need to call in to work today.

    Me: What??

B: Yeah, I'm gonna tell them I am not coming in.

Me: Um, why? What are you gonna tell them?

B: "I can't come to work. My dog is soft and I have to stay home and pet him."

Just for the record? He did go to work....but I think he was kinda serious about staying home due to Sampson's softness. If he could have gotten away with it, he totally would have stayed home. Hell, I would have done it too, if I could have.

Quick, someone tell me something funny. Or send me some booze. I need to be cheered up/have my mind taken off certain issues.

At least Lost is on tonight.....that's something to look forward to. I feel a little bit cheerier already.

    Recent Developments

    1. We got our DVR from ComCast this weekend, and to quote their awful ad campaign, "IT'S COMCASTIC!" Really though, I think I am in love with my DVR.

    2. How do you occupy a Brian on his birthday? Simple. Take him small appliance shopping and convince him to buy a microwave and a toaster oven, then convince him to purchase this for himself. Take him home, plug in the PS2, and be ignored for the rest of the afternoon. (Know what else is fun? When The Brian is feeling extra-feisty the day after his birthday, stage a fake argument at the gas station and laugh your ass off when he tells you he is sick of you and is going to drop you off at the Goodwill.  Make obscene gestures at him and giggle as the people around you think you are serious. Repeat. )

    3. The Never-Ending Cable Scarf had a tragic accident where it somehow was ripped out and restarted and made much smaller, width-wise. Really, I have NO IDEA how that possibly could have happened.

    4. Brian's mom made us chicken and dumplings, fried cornbread, black eyed peas, and pumpkin pie for his birthday. Holy God. It was GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD.

    5. My sister brought me back a really sweet and thoughtful gift from her business trip to Orlando. It made me all misty-eyed and sentimental.

    6. I volunteered to do Thanksgiving at my house. It seemed like a good idea at the time.

    7. Lelah's top section was un-seamed, un-bound off, and added to so that she will cover my sister's breastesesssss mo' bettah. Now, I just need the Craft Fairy to bring me a sewing machine, because I AM NOT sewing that shit by hand. Uh-uh.

    8. In a stunning example of how everything I am knitting right now turns to poop, I have managed to royally screw up a cabled hat I am making for The Brian, and somehow am knitting the cables ON THE WRONG SIDE. WTF??

    9. My boyfriend (I think this is the most he has EVER been mentioned in a post) is going to be on the radio this evening, rockin' out with the Tron fellas. If you live in Tallahassee, tune in to our friendly college radio station about 10-ish and have yourself a listen. Admire the furious rock onslaught that is Tron...but please, ladies, remember that the bass player is MINE.

    10. From today on, any action or person who takes an action that totally ruins their life shall be called a "Vorenus". This comes from last night's episode of Rome, where Lucius Vorenus completely and totally ruins his life in one fell swoop. (In other Rome news, Atia is still a bitch, Brutus is a total whine-ass, and Mark Antony is dirty-hot.)

    Somebody remembered her camera.....

Reason 17267364273568725314 why I love my boyfriend:

    This conversation:

Me: Ugh. It's effing NO-VEM-BER, why is it 88 degrees outside?

Him: I KNOW! I hate this.

Me: Well, the weather dude says it is going to get cold again Friday.

Him: It better, or I want my money back!

Cat news? Ok. I'm feeding her and letting her in at night, and looking for a home for her. Wanna see what she looks like?

    Dscn1378

    She's a cutie.

    Dscn1375

    Sampson likes her.

    Here she is again.

    Dscn1386

    Look closer.

    Dscn1385

Yeah. She crawled into the couch last night because while Sampson LOVES her, she's not too sure about him. It was NOT FUN getting her out of the couch, but all is well. She's a snuggly little thing too.

    Knitting? Look...pictures....

Another hat is currently on the needles.

Socks are also being worked on....slowly but surely.

I wish I would have had some emergency knitting with me yesterday while I waited in the Wal-Mart Tire &Lube center to get my FLAT TIRE fixed. Never, ever buy tires at Wal-Mart, because when you have to go back to get your flat fixed using your tire warranty the guy that works there will treat you like you are a 5 year old and be a total rude asshole to you and then you will tell him he needs to work on his people skills. Ahem. THREE HOURS LATER....my tire was fixed. Because, you know, smoke breaks and shootin' the shit with your co-workers is WAY more important than getting the ONE oil change and ONE flat repair sitting in the garage done. I mean, it's totally understandable that when 6 tire/lube dudes are milling about doing nothing and there are only two customers it takes 3 hours to fix a flat tire.

    Bastards.

I went home and looked at my yarn from handpaintedyarn.com and I felt better. (The blue stuff in the middle is some ArtYarns Supermerino that I am desperately wanting to use but don't know what to do with, and is NOT part of my order). The purplish goodness is some laceweight merino from hpy.com, and the big blue-green ball is more of the same, while the lovely autumn-y colored stuff is some Ejido 160 (I have no idea what that means, but it is soft, thick wool) also from hpy.com.

    Dscn1395

The colors are UNBELIEVABLE and I had a great experience ordering from them, and will definitely be a repeat customer.

I also got my knitpicks order, but it's not that exciting. Just some basic wool, some really plain solid color sock yarn, and some teensy Addi's.

Wanna see how far away my sister moved? This was taken from my front door. See that big silver truck down that a way? (Please ignore my neighbor's crash test car in the foreground.....) That's her house. Far, huh?

    Dscn1387

Sampson wants you to have a fantastic weekend, and to wish his daddy a happy birthday. My sweet, wonderful man is having a birthday tomorrow, folks! Say it with me, HAPPY BIRTHDAY BRIAN!

    Dscn1381

*Um, so yeah....the Lelah? Doesn't fit my sister right? Because I kinda LOST her measurements? Because I am lame? So, uh, I have to add some length to the top portion. DAMMIT!

    Cranberry juice is my friend

    First off, the cat....

The cat is not constantly on my doorstep anymore. She now splits her time between sleeping in the hedges in front of my house and and sleeping on the window ledge outside of my sisters living room down the street.

Sampson has decided the kitty is NOT a tasty treat, but likes to sniff her and paw at her verrrrrry gently when we go outside and she's around. Kitty tolerates Sampson, and bashes him on the nose when she feels he is misbehaving.

Kitty is either going to the vet and coming to live with me, or going to a rescue organization I have a call into.

Sampson desperately misses his sister. He's depressed. I stayed home sick yesterday with a fabulously high fever and urinary tract issues, and Sampson spent the day sleeping. On me. Next to me. Near me. I have never, EVER seen a living organism sleep as much as Sampson did yesterday. (Except for this one time when I was reallllllly hung over, but that's a story for another day.) Nina says Cricket's a little depressed as well, so hopefully this evening we can meet up (yeah, because, you know, we live SO FAR from one another) and let the goggies play.

So yeah, and I live with my boyfriend now. That's weird. I'm not exactly used to it being official yet. We went couch and bed shopping on Saturday and found the living room set and bed we want. Now we just have to conjure up the money to purchase those items, and we'll be good to go. I have to get my cable turned on....I really hope Comcast will be able to do it before 9pm tomorrow night, or heads are gonna roll.

    Knitting, you say?

    A few things:

    1. Must. Remember. Camera. Lelah pictures. Mini-Clapotis pictures. Cabled scarf pictures. I'm a loser.

    2. 3 skeins of this. Need suggestions. Please help. I've had this yarn FOREVER and feel I must, must, MUST do something with it, NOW.

    3. Guess who is making slow but sure progress on these? Hooray for Magic Loop!

Oh, and I have a new job. Me, the most non-Southern gal around, will soon be in charge of this fabulous webring. See, I am FINALLY accepting the fact that I live in the South now, and won't be moving any time soon. I'm embracing my adopted homeland. Even though the weather sucks, the roaches are the size of a small horse, and people burn their trash, I'm embracing, not shunning, this wondrous land.

I must go attack the Desk Demons awaiting me now. I would like to be able to actually SEE the surface of my desk at some point today.

    So...there's this cat.....

As you may or may not know, dear readers, I am a SUCKER when it comes to animals. (For more proof of this, remember if you will the story about how I ended up with two dogs.)

    .....with that in mind....

There's this cat. She's young, not a baby, but probably not a year old yet. She's gorgeous, all white and pumpkin and pale grey, with a cute little face and pretty cat eyes. This cat has been hanging out on my doorstep since Halloween. She's in heat, and she won't leave. I don't know if she is lost, or if she is one of the many unfortunate victims of college students who dump their pets when they move in this town.

Now, I love cats, I do. I was never a dog person until a little over a year ago. If it were just up to me, the little stray kitty would have had a trip to the vet, a flea bath, and would be curled up sleeping on my pillow right now. However, the men of the house (Sampson and Brian) disagree. When I whine to Brian about the poor tiny cat outside and ask him what i should do, he just looks at me and shakes his head. I can't blame him, I mean, REALLY, I need a cat like I need a hole in my head....but still. Poor kitty. And Sampson? Sampson just tries to eat the kitty.

I don't want to take the kitty to the shelter...I don't know what to do. I am terrified that the kitty is going to become road kill on my very busy street if she doesn't have a place to go very soon.

    Any suggestions???

    There goes the neighborhood

    I've got some new neighbors.

I hope they don't bring the neighborhood down.

I mean, who even knows these people?

    Oh...wait.....I do.

My sister and her man are moving out of my house starting today, and it should be a pretty easy move, since the are only moving a few doors down. They decided that out of all the places they looked at, the one they liked best and that would work best for them happens to be another townhouse on our cul-de-sac. This is good, because the kiddies will not be TOO seperated, and will be able to go for walks together and hang out together while their mommies are at work, which is what is normal for them.

Today I get to drop several hundreds of dollars on utility and cable hook-ups, and boy oh boy, is THAT an exciting prospect. Good times.

I have been knitting, and PROMISE pictures soon, including the finished Lelah, but right now? I need sleep. I spent 6 hours driving for work today. I'm very tired, and drinking half a bottle of Pinot Grigio did not help with the sleepiness issue. I thought it would help relieve my stress. Not so much. However, it DID give me heartburn.

I can't effing win this week, folks.

Send happy thoughts my way, wouldja???
